The Black Pearl is very proud to announce and continue our little 7inch GDR / DDR / East Germany-series.
Two outstanding Soul & Funk tunes with a light Jazz & Rock touch, with never before released material on the B-side called "Früh"!
The group "WIR" was founded after the poet Jens Gerlach met the musician Wolfgang Ziegler and they started to compose songs together.
Both wrote their first songs together, one of which appeared in 1971 with "So Wie Du" on a solo single by Wolfgang Ziegler. In Ziegler, however, the dream of owning a band had been slumbering for some time.
He developed this idea with Jens Gerlach and finally the GRUPPE WIR was founded in 1972. At that time, the founding members were Wolfgang Ziegler (piano, organ, guitar, vocals), Joachim Türpe (bass), Dieter Lehmann (guitar), Bernd Swoboda (trombone, flute and harp) and Peter Müller (drums).
While Ziegler was responsible for the compositions at WIR, Jens Gerlach provided the lyrics for the musical-pieces.
The Gruppe WIR changed musically from, jazz, soul, funk and rock to pop or disco music. Especially in the pop and disco area, together with the group KREIS, they were among the most successful bands in the GDR.
These two well recorded songs (1972 at Haus Der Jungen Talente / 1973 at Rundfunk der DDR) from the first years of Gruppe WIR showing their individual mix of genres and styles and their potential to create their very own sound. That made it very easy to master these two musical pearls, which came directly from the master-tape.
